DoS-Resilient Control Design for Vehicle Platooning: a Hybrid Systems Approach

Résumé :

The level of automation is making vehicles more and more independent from human drivers. In the future, cars will also share information with each other enabling the concept of Connected Automated Vehicles (CAVs). This advancement in technology is expected to improve the efficiency and safety of the transportation system.  However, together with connectivity, vehicles will be exposed to cybersecurity threats. Each cyber-attack can potentially hamper the economy with efficiency losses and endanger human lives. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to develop and adopt secure and resilient technologies that can protect CAVs from cyber-attacks. This talk outlines efforts in employing dynamical and control systems theory to improve the resiliency of connected vehicles to cyber-attacks by proposing novel design procedures. In particular, I will present innovative approaches to make vehicle platooning applications more resilient to denial of service (DoS) attacks. The presentation will focus on vehicles, although this effort targets more general control problems.
