Starting from the 2018-2019 academic year, students enrolling for the first time in a higher education institution do not change their mandatory health insurance scheme. Those who are already registered with a student health insurance company keep it for the academic year 2018-2019. In either case, the annual affiliation procedure is no longer necessary and the membership fees are abolished.

Health insurance scheme depends on the student nationality

  • French : Students who enroll for the first time in a higher education institution do not change their compulsory health insurance scheme (general scheme, MSA, etc.). Those who are already registered with a student complimentary insurance company keep it for the academic year 2018-2019, without fees. The student social security scheme will disappear completely on August 31, 2019.
  • The European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss nationals : Students should be normally enrolled to a health insurance scheme in their home country. If they are working during their studies, they are covered by the French universal health insurance (PUMa)
  • Other nationalities : All non-European or Swiss students profit from the universal health insurance (PUMa) without the application of the 3-month waiting period.
